About
Mark Sirdevan is a contemporary visual artist living and working in Newton, Massachusetts.
In his current series of small scale acrylic paintings, all completed in 2025-2026, he engages materiality and the interplay between abstraction, representation, spontaneity and memory.
The compositions are constructed through a practice of layering, juxtaposition and fluid, graphic inscriptions, that together with unexpected color harmonies create allusive pictorial spaces.
Working simultaneously on many paintings over extended periods of time creates a textual memory. This texture has a defining role in the ultimate appearance rendering a sustained engagement with the painted surface.
